How do I use my log splitter safely?

Log Splitters, like all mechanical devices, are safe to use if you handle them properly and with respect.  

  • Log Splitters, require concentration and alertness from the operator. Never  use a Log Splitter if you are over tired, feeling ill or have been drinking alcohol. 

  • Make sure your Log Splitter is placed at a good height to work with and that it is secure, on a flat and even surface. If you are using a horizontal splitter without a think about fixing it to a worktable or similar.

  • It is advisable to wear goggles to avoid the occasional flying splinter or wood dust affecting your eyes. 

  • It might be useful to wear good quality, strong gloves, again to avoid splinters and reduce the effects of vibration. 

  • Most, if not all, powered log splitters have two-handed operation, so you cannot operate the machine and have your hand near the splitting action at the same time. This ensures maximum safety at all times.  

  • Check your Log Splitter regularly to make sure all nuts, bolts and screws are at the correct tension and not loose.
