What does torque mean?

You will often come across the word torque being mentioned with regard to Chainsaws.

Torque is a method of rating the power produced by a machine and it’s work capability. In simple terms, torque is a measure of rotational power, i.e. how much power the engine delivers to rotate the blades of your Chainsaw.

For example: a car engine turning the car wheels, a screwdriver turning a screw, a spanner turning a nut, all generate torque – the force that causes the objects to rotate. (see image below)

So, the higher the torque, the more rotational power, and therefore cutting power, you have at your disposal.
