A brief guide to petrol chainsaws

Petrol chainsaws vary from smaller, lighter models for domestic use to large, professional machines for forestry and large projects.

They are portable and can be used anywhere*, making them ideal for work in the field, in woodland, large gardens or estates and in awkward places where a cable would become a hindrance or a
hazard.

They are generally more powerful than electric chainsaws and the larger models can handle hard woods and thick branches. The very large models of course, can be used to fell trees, even fully grown large ones.

Petrol chainsaws tend to be two-stroke machines, generally costing more than electric models and requiring fuel mixed with oil to work. They also need more maintenance than electric models. See our ‘Chainsaw Maintenance‘ section for more information.
