What determines the size of logs I can cut?

Assorted Guide Bars

As stated elsewhere in our guides, the cutting chain in a chainsaw travels around a bar, known as a ‘guide bar’.

The cutting part of the chainsaw blade and bar is referred to as the ‘cutting length’ and it is this length that determines the size of wood a Chainsaw can cut in one go.

The cutting length is measured from the front of the engine mount to the tip of the furthest blade on the chain, rounded up to the nearest inch or centimetre
